Armed Police Deployed At Cllr. Sherman Residence

13233109_10206286150137699_2115731087024969986_nDozens of armed police men from the Emergency Response Unity (ERU) of the Liberia National Police were early today deployed at the residence of Cllr. Varney G. Sherman, the man at the center of the alleged bribery and corruption scandal which was exposed by the Global Witness (GW) where several individuals including government officials received bribes from Stable Mining.

Our reporter who visited the Congo Town residence of Cllr. Sherman who is also Senator of Grand Cape Mount and National Chairman of the ruling Unity Party-led government said armed police officers were seen in full gear surrounding the home of the outspoken Senator.

yeat4Our Reporter also said apart from the deployment of armed police men around the home of the Senator, officers from the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LAAC) and Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) were also seen there apparently to carry out their respective assignments from their bosses.

Few days ago the Grand Cape Mount Senator and Chairman of the Ruling Unity Party (UP), Cllr. Varney G. Sherman spoke on a local radio station that he will not submit himself to the Special Presidential Taskforce set up by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to probe those linked to the Global Witness bribery and corruption scandal.

Observers who spoke to our reporter at the site of the armed police deployment, said they were taken aback of this situation, wondering as to what gave rise for such action, noting that the Senator who is still are his residence was unable to leave for work because of the deployment of the armed men around his house armed men from Liberia National Police, wondering as to whether the Liberian leader, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who departed the country today for the Ivory Coast is aware of this development.

Last week some of those linked to the Global Witness bribery and corruption scandal including one of the sons of the President, Fumba Sirleaf appeared before the Special Presidential Taskforce, while the Senator defiance posture of not submitting to the Taskforce headed by Cllr. Formati Koffa with the LACC being a member remained in full swing.

Effort by this outlet to contact the Senator via his mobile phone proved unsuccessful, but his spokesman, Mambu Golafalay who spoke to our staff reconfirmed the deployment of the armed police men at the residence of his boss.
