The New York Police Department (NYPD) it has arrested three suspects in connection with a brazen robbery attempt in a St. John’s University dorm Wednesday afternoon.
University campus safety sent a notification to students and faculty saying that three suspects entered a dorm room at Hollis Hall, flashed a gun, fired a shot and tried to rob the victims.
Police confirm that they responded to a 911 call at that address around 1:30 p.m.
Sources say the NYPD subsequently made three arrests and recovered two guns. Police are investigating whether the incident was an attempted robbery or may be drug related, sources say.
Thomas Lawrence, Vice President for Public Safety at St. John’s University released the following statement:
“Earlier this afternoon, three males entered a residence hall on the Queens campus, displayed a gun and discharged a bullet in what appears to be a robbery. There were no injuries. The NYPD responded to an emergency call and the three suspects were apprehended and arrested off campus.
“Safety is a top priority at St. John’s and, at this time, there is no continuing threat to the campus community. The University is working closely with the NYPD, which is continuing its investigation at this time.” READ MORE
