ISIS-claimed car bombing kills scores in Baghdad’s predominant Shiite area

uni1462983783{BNN/BAGHDAD, Iraq}  – A car bombing claimed by the ISIS in Baghdad has reportedly killed over 50 people and injured nearly 60 on May 11.

According to reports the car, packed with explosives, was left in Sadr City, a predominantly Shiite neighbourhood in Iraq’s capital and exploded near a beauty salon during rush hour.

An eye witness reportedly revealed that the car was loaded with fruits and vegetables, and was left by a man who quickly slipped into the crowds of people, in the open air shopping area.

Reports added that the entire fronts of the nearest buildings were destroyed, and passers-by dug among the debris to find and help victims.

Further, it has been reported that the number of injured civilians was high, prompting police officials to fear that the death toll could eventually rise.

Reports state that the ISIS confirmed that they orchestrated the attack in a statement released online by the Sunni jihadist group.

Further, the authenticity of the statement could not be verified, but rides on the fact that ISIS militants make use of that particular website frequently to post their statements. READ MORE
