11 Sime Darby Protestors Charged With Criminal Facilitation

sime-darbyPolice in Tubmanburg, Bomi County have charged 11 persons with criminal facilitation and property damage for their alleged involvement in a riot on the Sime Darby Plantation in Gbarjike, Senjeh District recently.

They have been detained at the Tubmanburg Central Prison pending trial, according to a police charge sheet.

The charge sheet indicated that the individuals, whose names are being withheld, were arrested by police for destroying hectares of palm.

It can be recalled that community dwellers staged a violent demonstration against the backdrop that an unidentified woman who went to seek medical treatment at the Sime Darby clinic early this month had gone missing.

The charge sheet stated that the demonstrators also damaged some offices and warehouses on the plantation and took away some properties belonging to the company.

During preliminary investigation, the defendants denied their involvement in the act, and vowed to contest the charges levied against them in court, the charge sheet pointed out.
