President Ouattara, who visited the site, said six attackers who carried out the attack have been killed.

A French foreign ministry spokesman said at least one French national was among the victims.

Grand Bassam, located 40 km east of the commercial hub of Abidjan, is popular with both locals and western tourists.

Some media outlets reported Al-Qaeda’s north African branch has claimed responsibility for the attack.
