Liberian Leader Named New Head After Dissolution Of LRNCS Board

redcrosslogoPresident Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has named Ebenezer Kolliegbo as Interim Head of the Liberian National Red Cross Society (LNRCS), following the dissolution of the Board.

According to an Executive Mansion release, President Johnson-Sirleaf Said, “This is to assure Liberians and international partners that efforts will be exerted to restore the credibility and integrity of the LNRCS to ensure that it refocuses on its humanitarian objectives.”

The Liberian Leader is expected to reconstitute a new Board of the LNRCS soon, the release said.

The appointment of Mr. Kolliegbo as Interim Head of the LNRCS came amid the attention of international partners and donors of the Red Cross and the suspension of support by the British Red Cross recently.

According to the release, the appointment of Mr. Kolliegbo who was member of the dissolved Board was followed by consultations with old members of the dissolved Board, stakeholders and international partners.

It can be recalled that an audit of the operations of the LNRCS, during the Ebola Crisis, by Moore Stevens, unearthed the misapplication of over US$1m by the Management Team at the LRNCS headed by Emmanuel Kparh.

Meanwhile, the Under Secretary General for Programs and Operations of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Garry Conille, is expected to arrive in Liberia this week to take up the matter affecting the LNRCS.
