The Episcopal Church of Liberia has condemned the alleged act of rape committed by one of its Priests assigned in Grand Kru County, terming it as a “barbaric and heinous act.”
The church says it remains shocked and dismayed about media reports alleging that its priest raped a 10- year-old girl in the county.
In a statement published in Monrovia Thursday, the church informed the public that it supports the efforts of the government and other partners in the fight against violence against women and children and as such the rights of women and girls must be respected.
According to the communication, signed by the Bishop of the Episcopal Church of Liberia, Rev. Jonathan B.B. Hart, the church noted that it will work with the government to bring the alleged perpetrator to justice and thereby bring relief to the child.
The church also informed the public that that the Priest in question has been suspended indefinitely from all functions of the Episcopal Church of Liberia until at such time he can exonerate himself from the alleged act.
Meanwhile, the church has called on all Episcopalians to condemn the act and begin to speak out against violence against women and girls as well as join the fight to end such heinous crime.
