Celebrating Christmas in the Terrain of the World’s ‘Superpower’

Celebrating Christmas, an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25th each year in the US was a great experience for me for the first time; as usual gifts of all kinds were being exchanged between friends and relatives with children being the highest recipients of gifts.

This day as usual is celebrated by billions of Christians around the world in observing of the birth of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, while non-Christians also shared gifts to relatives and friends celebrating with them this day.

In New York, the United States where I am presently visiting, the day was colorful with the celebratory customs associated in various states of the world’s superpower, the United States with Christmas have a mix of pre-Christian, Christian, and secular themes and origins.

The exchange of gifts of Christmas cards, church services, a special meal, and the display of various Christmas decorations, including Christmas trees, Christmas lights, nativity scenes, garlands, wreaths, mistletoe, and holly were overwhelmed during the celebration.

In addition, several closely related and often interchangeable figures, known as Santa Claus, Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas, and Christ kind, were visible with bringing gifts to children during the Christmas season and have their own body of traditions and lore.

As a way of expressing their happiness in celebrating this day, Christians and non-Christians displayed decorations depicting the spirit of this day; difference decorations were visible at the front yards of various residences around the United States, likewise around the world.

Celebrating this day in the US terrain was great, as I took up time to visit several states, observing the celebration; shopping centers in most of those states visited on Christmas Eve were busy as shoppers queued out to buy gift items for their kids, friends and relatives.

Wishing Americans season’s greetings on one of the local televisions were President Barack Obama and the first lady of United States, Michelle Obama.
