The political ambition of resigned Liberian Foreign Affairs Minister, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan has landed on what political observers called ‘On a rock grounds’ with news that the Executive Committee of the main opposition political party, the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has rejected his bid to become a member of the party.
Following his resignation as Liberia’s Foreign Minister last month, it was speculated that his resignation from the Liberian Government would have given him an upper hand to becoming the Vice Presidential candidate to the party’s Standard Bearer, Senator George Menneh Weah in the 2017 general and presidential elections.
But in a local media outlet today, the Women Voices quoting a ‘well placed’ source within the party said, Mr. Ngafuan was rejected by the Executive Committee of the CDC during one of the party’s executive committee session.
According to the paper, quoting an inside source during an extra ordinary Executive Committee which was held at the [party’s headquarters, some members of the party led by Samuel Tweah, and CDC’s Deputy Secretary General, Samora Wolokollie angrily resisted the Weah/Ngafuan ticket for 2017.
According to the report, Wolokollie opposed Ngafuan on grounds that it was during the administration of Ngafuan that he (Wolokollie) was dismissed from the Ministry of Finance now Ministry of Finan, Development and Planning.
For this reason, Wolokollie who is also to Senator Weah, then termed the decision of the party to kick out Ngafuan’s request for the Vice Standard Bearership as a victory won. Speaking on the issue, Senator Weah told reporters that Wolokollie is still bitter over his dismissal, and therefore vowed to support his decision.
Political observers who spoke to this news outlet have recounted CDC's style of rejecting people who want to mention arm with their political leader, Senator George Weah. The first and second were Winston Tubman, and Benoni Urey.
Effort by this news outlet to get on line Mr. Ngafuan to response to this latest development proved unsuccessful as his mobile lines rang endlessly. Detail will follow in our subsequent posting.
