LIBERIA: Ellen’s Gov’t Suffers Mass Resignation, Resigned Officials Termed Gov’t As ‘Most Corrupt’

The ruling Unity Party of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is gradually cracking each day as dozens of her officials including her confidants and executive members of her party have publicly relinquished their membership with the party.

The first to do so was the President’s most trusty cabinet ministers, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan who tendered in his resignation while on his US official with his boss, the President, stating no reason for his action.

Few days ago some batch of the President’s confidants, and executive members of the ruling Unity Party publicly tendered in their resignation, blaming their action as the ‘Government failure’ to conduct its activities for the benefit of the Liberian people, making specific reference of ‘Massive Corruption that cannot be controlled.

Six executive committee members in the Liberian parliament, including the Speaker of the House of Representative, Alex Tyler last week denounced their membership with the Party; a situation observers believed is cracking the governing Unity Party.

Speaking to our reporter over the weekend, an executive who preferred not to be named disclosed that more resignations are underway, noting, “People are tired of the complicity on the part of this government, especially the refusal on the part of the President and Standard Bearer of our party to action against those accused of corruption. Her action has brought us to public ridicule, this situation can no more be handled,” the UP executive in a chat with our staff noted.

Sources closed to this news outlet disclosed that some junior and senior cabinet ministers are threatening to tender in their resignation shortly.

Detail will follow in our subsequent posting.
