Presidential Guard Deputy Chief Fired For Assaulting Woman

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has with immediate effect relieved Deputy Director for Operations of the Executive Protection Service (EPS), Darlington George, of his post for assaulting a woman, Ms. Varnwester Maday Kiatamba.

The Liberian leader has also ordered that George report to the Ministry of Justice for investigation and forwarded to court for prosecution if found wanting.

According to an Executive Mansion release issued late Monday, President Sirleaf has also strongly directed that others involved in the fracas that are not EPS agents should report to the Ministry of Justice.

The release quotes the Liberian leader as saying that she will not condone such acts of sheer indiscipline and total lack of morals on the part of any member of state security institutions, especially the EPS, which has been subject to thorough psychological reform to give a human face to the public service they are entrusted to perform.
