The Real Estate Tax Division of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) plans to raise US$7million in support of the 2015/16 National Budget, Assistant Commissioner of Real Estate, Lassana Kromah, has disclosed.
Speaking on the ELBC “Super Morning Show” Thursday, Kromah described the amount as “huge and the first of its kind,” adding that it will be raised between July 2015 and June 2016 “or the national budget will witness another round of budget shortfall as in previous years.”
He said to ensure the realization of said huge responsibility; the division will rigorously ensure the enforcement of real estate tax collection while providing education and awareness for property owner and others.
“This is a huge amount because this entity has not raised five or six million least to talk about seven million in support of the national budget,” Kromah pointed out.
Meanwhile, he is challenging Liberians to take advantage of the room that provides for every citizen to self-declare their real estate taxes or register with the division as a mark of their patriotism to the republic.
“Though we are reasonably flexible, it is up to the task of collecting needed government revenues” Kromah noted.
