Dozens dead in Indonesian military plane crash

At least 37 people were killed Tuesday when an Indonesian air force plane crashed into a residential neighborhood in the country's third largest city.

The Hercules C-130 came down in Medan, the capital of North Sumatra province, shortly before midday local time, just two minutes after taking off from the Soewondo air force base, the Associated Press reported. Eko Hadi Sutedjo, North Sumatra's police chief, told reporters that the plane was carrying 50 people based on its manifest, and that 37 bodies have been taken to a Medan hospital, the news agency reported.
