Embassy of Liberia – Cairo: A delegation of a selected group of officials of diverse branches of the Government of the Republic of Liberia visited the Arab Republic of Egypt from 14-17 June 2015 on the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Social Fund for Development (SFD) of Egypt, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), for a Sturdy Tour within the framework of the South-South cooperation.
According to a dispatch, the delegation included. the Liberian Minister of Internal Affairs,Morris Dukuly, Minister who also heading the delegation,Senator Thomas Grupee, Chairperson, Senate Committee on Internal Affairs,Representative Prince Togba, Chairperson, House Committee on Internal Affairs, Madam Gbeme T. H. Kollie, Deputy Minister for Operations, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mr. Augustine Blama, Deputy Minister of Finance and Budget, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning,6. Mr. Yarsuo Weh Dorliae; Commissioner, Governance Commission, and Madam Nessie Golakai, UNDP Resident Officer.
The main objective as well as expected outcome of the Study Tour was to examine and understand the Egyptian model of over 23 years experience of the Social Development Fund, within the broader framework of poverty alleviation so as to enhance learning, including adapting those elements that might improve and add value to the Liberia’s own experience of social development fund.
The Study Tour provided the opportunity for the delegation to also understand the key thematic issues that underpin a Social Fund, gain organization structure and management experiences of the SFD, establish learning opportunity, experience sharing and educational networking for mutual benefit that would also strengthen bilateral relations between both countries, and enhance peer-to-peer learning and knowledge networking within the framework of south-south and triangular cooperation.
On the final day of the tour, H.E. Alexander H.N. Wallace III, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Liberia to the Arab Republic of Egypt, hosted the delegation for a reception. Also present at the reception were the Ambassadors of Niger, Côte d'Ivoire, Angola and Democratic Republic of Congo accredited to Egypt among others.
