LIBERIA: Court Sentences 4 To Five Years In Jail For Armed Robbery.

According to the Liberia News Agency (LINA),Criminal Court ‘D’ at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia has sentenced four persons to five years imprisonment at the Monrovia Central Prison for armed robbery.

The Presiding Judge of Criminal Court “D”, Johannes Z. Zlahn released one of the suspects, Jacob Vertekeh from further detention for lack of evidence against him.

Defendants Janjay Chea, Peter Goankeh, Bana Bana, Papie Harris and Jacob Vertekeh were on January 20, 2014 arrested by the Liberia National Police (LNP) on charges of armed robbery.  

Handing down the final ruling Tuesday, Judge Zlahn said the defendants will serve their jail term excluding the year already served, adding that the defendants were found guilty based upon the evidence produced during the trial.

Judge Zlahn has accordingly ordered the clerk of the court to prepare a release in favor of Jacob Vertekeh and place same in the hands of the sheriff of the court to be served on the prison authorities ordering said authorities to forthwith release the defendant from further detention.

At the same time, Judge Zlahn has ordered the clerk of the court to prepare a commitment against the defendants to serve their prison term at the |Monrovia Central prison.
