Africa Ready For Future Challenges – Liberian Leader

Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has emphasized that Africa is ready to face the challenges of the future and to confront future epidemics head-on.
According to a Dispatch from Abidjan, she made the statement when she joined other panelists to discuss the theme: “Are we ready for the next epidemic? Fixing Africa’s Primary Healthcare,” at a high-level event organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) at programs marking the bank’s 50th Anniversary celebrations currently taking place in the Ivorian capital, Abidjan.
She pointed out that there may be obstacles along the way, but they can be confronted and cleared.
“We must tackle the structural problems that exist and I believe that the tragedy faced today should prepare us for a long journey ahead because Africa has made a lot of progress with governance and development,” Pres. Sirleaf observed.
She thanked the AfDB and its outgoing President Donald Kaberuka for “a great partnership” over the years and acknowledged Dr. Kaberuka’s personal role in stamping out the Ebola virus from Liberia.
