LIBERIA: Grand Cape Mount County Schools In Dire Need Of Materials

The Chairman of the Grand Cape Mount County School Board, Amos Kaiwu ,says the lack of textbooks, laboratory, library and instructional materials is hampering the proper running of the school system in the county.
Kaiwu said the low sitting capacity at schools across the county is also a serious challenge facing the school system as many students are sitting on the floor while others carry their own chairs to school.
According to the Liberia News Agency, the Grand Cape Mount County local education authority made the disclosure in Tewor District recently when he met with an assessment team of National Civil Society Ebola Task Force.
He indicated that most of the teachers are providing their own roll books and other instructional materials due to the delay on the part of the Ministry of Education to supply basic materials and other stationeries.
Kaiwu also observed that several parents have refused to send their children to school for fear of the Ebola virus, but assured them that government and international partners are doing everything possible to prevent recurrence of the virus.
