LIBERIA: Seven-man Body To Probe LAC Explosion

The Ministry of Labour has set up a seven-man committee to investigate the recent explosion that killed six employees and injured 11others at the Liberia Agricultural Company (LAC) in Grand Bassa County.
The investigation is slated to commence Friday, February 20, according to a release issued by the ministry Wednesday.
The Committee comprises the Ministries of Labor and Internal Affairs, Environmental Protection Agency, National Fire Service, Liberia National Police, Liberia Agricultural Allied Workers Union and the General Agricultural Workers Union of Liberia, the release noted.
It stated that the team will work along with experts sent by the Indonesia-based manufacturer of the plant to investigate the cause of the explosion.
The Ministry has also contracted the services of an independent local industrial safety expert to help with the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Labour is extending an open invitation to the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) and the Liberia Labour Congress (LLC) to observe the investigation.
