LIBERIA: Muslim Prelate Cautions Imams in Cape Mount

The head of the Grand Cape Mount County branch of the National Muslim Council  of Liberia (GMNMCL) has  cautioned Imams in the county to advise their congregations against bathing and secretly burying dead relatives.

Sheikh Abu Bakarr Sumawolo said desisting from bathing and burying dead relatives is a preventive measure against the deadly Ebola disease which has claimed the lives of scores of citizens in the county.

Sheikh Sumawolo sounded the warning in an interview with the Liberia News Agency in Robertsport recently.

The Muslim prelate noted that the failure of Imams to adequately educate their congregations about the preventive measures against Ebola could lead to more deaths in the area.

He said it was regrettable that the Muslim community still engages in such traditional practices, despite measures introduced by the government to prevent the spread of Ebola.

He said the Ebola disease will be eradicated in the country only if Muslims are willing to observe the Ebola preventive measures outlined by health authorities.
