LIBERIA: Liberty Party Senatorial Candidate Complains President’s Son to Election Commission on Violations

Opposition Liberty Party (LP) Montserrado County Senatorial Candidate in the upcoming special senatorial election, youthful Benjamin Sanvee has complained against Robert A. Sirleaf, son of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf also a Montserrado County Senatorial candidate for erecting promotional billboards in Monrovia and its environs while Supreme Court of Liberia has placed a halt on all political campaigns.

Addressing a news conference yesterday, December 3, 2014, Mr. Sanvee accused his political rival of violated recent stance by the Supreme Court putting end to all political activities following the submission of a petition by some group of political parties against the holding of such election.

He said Mr. Sirleaf with no regard to the highest court of the land, ignored the Supreme Court of Liberia decision to suspend all political activities including campaigning, went ahead erecting  billboards throughout Monrovia and its environs, a situation he described as ‘Challenging the rule of law”.

Mr. Sanvee also alleged that some unknown persons have damaged his erected billboards for his campaign purposes, a situation he also said must be investigated by the election commission.

But in reaction, the Campaign Committee of Senatorial Candidate Robert Sirleaf in a radio interview refuted the allegation leveled against his candidate, stressing, “These are all false and misleading allegations against our candidate, we will not dignify such,” a member of Robert Sirleaf for Senate campaign said.
