The Liberia National Police (LNP) is investigating the death of a 22-year-old man in an apparent suicide in the police cell in New Kru Town Tuesday.
According to police spokesman Sam Collins, Papa Walker was discovered dead by police officers at the New Kru Town Police Depot during routine inspection.
Collins told the Liberia News Agency Wednesday that Walker, the only inmate in the cell, was detained on charges of “simple assault and persistent child non-support.”
He said during the investigation, it was discovered that Walker should have appeared at the New Kru Town Magisterial Court on Wednesday, November 12, to answer to the charges.
According to Collins, Walker was found hanging by the neck with his own shirt in the cell.
He said findings of the investigation will be made public by Police Inspector General, Col. C. Clarence Massaquoi, in due course.
