LIBERIA: Police Charge 2 Chinese With Simple Assault

The Liberia National Police (LNP) has charged two Chinese nationals, Yang Anbao and Wang Fang Yi, with the offence of Simple Assault pending court trail.

According to the Police charge sheet, the two Chinese, Yang and Wang, both residents of the Battery Factory Community in Gardnersville, Monrovia, violated Chapter 14, section 1421 of the new penal code of Liberia.

The two were arrested for “knowingly and intentionally inflicting bodily injury” on Madam Caroline Togba, also a resident of the Battery Factory Community in Monrovia.

The Police charge sheet said during preliminary investigation, it was revealed that in December 2013, February 2014 and April 2014, complainant Madam Togba, who is a former employee of the Pengsheng Sand Plant Corporation, managed by some Chinese nationals, was engaged in a tussle with Yang and Wang, during which she sustained an abrasion on her right hand.

Police investigation revealed that on April 1, 2014, complainant Togba sent two boys identified as Emmanuel Lamah and John.Boye, to haul sand from the company’s yard in a wheelbarrow.

The report said while loading the wheelbarrow, the defendants rushed into the compound, drove towards the two boys and wasted the sand.

The Police charge sheet indicated that in the process complainant Togba ran to intervene when the defendants assaulted her, during which she sustained abrasion on her right hand and pain in her neck.
