LIBERIA: Gov’t Shuts Down Kakata Rural Teacher’s Training Institute Indefinitely

Authorities of the Education Ministry have ordered the immediate closure of the Kakata Rural Teachers Training Institute (KRTTI), Deputy Education Minister for Administration, Atty. Ramsey Kumbuyah has said.

He said the Education Ministry took the decision to shut down the teachers training institute due to the ongoing situation between KRTTI Director, students and the faculties, the Liberia News reports.

The director, trainees and staffs of the school have been locked in a confrontation over her alleged mistreatment of them at the school.

Minister Kumbuyah had gone on the campus of the KRTTI to inform them of the outcome of the findings of their complaint against the Director, Mrs. Precious Brownell-Dennis.

Minister Kumbuyah informed the trainees and staff that all of their allegations were found to lack evidence and that Mrs. Dennis was still the Director of KRTTI.

After Minister Kumbayah’s statement the entire campus went amok, with the staff and trainees vowing to resist the director’s reinstatement as head of KRTTI.

As a result of the unfolding chaos on the KRTTI campus, the Police Support Unit has been deployed there to stabilize the problem there.
