Youth and Sports Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe has lauded the United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF) for its continuous support to the ministry.
Minister Nagbe disclosed that as part of its assistance to the ministry, the UN agency recently provided US$240,083 in additional funding to the Ministry, to run the National Youth Service Program (NYSP).
He told the Liberia News Agency Monday, at his Paynesville office, that the funding, which represents the second such by UNICEF for the current phase of the NYSP, was recently remitted to the ministry's account under an arrangement between UNICEF and the Ministry.
Minister Nagbe disclosed that 175 national volunteers are currently being deployed under the NYSP in 12 of the 15 counties of Liberia.
These volunteers, he said, will render services in the areas of health, education, agriculture and youth center management, among others.
Meanwhile, Minister Nagbe has noted that the sustained UNICEF support will ensure the success of the NYSP, adding that the latest funding will cover cost expenses of ongoing activities of the program, including monthly support to the 175 volunteers, operational support to the MYS and county coordinating offices.
Mr. Nagbe also observed that continued UNICEF support to the Ministry was based on the confidence the UN agency has in the ministry's internal management system and programs.
