Tubmanburg City Mayor, Rebecca Benson, said the businesses violated Article VI, Sections One and Two of the Ordinance of the Municipal Corporation of Tubmanburg City.
Speaking to the Liberia News Agency in an interview Tuesday in her City Hall office, Mayor Benson said the businesses have refused to pay the stipulated tax ranging from US$100 to US$550, as provided for in the City Ordinance.
She said the businesses failed to make payments of their taxes in January 2014 and refused to attend meetings called by the corporation on January 4 and January 21, 2014, in the county.
Mayor Benson said as such, the corporation was left with no option but to enforce the Ordinance of the Municipal Corporation of Tubmanburg by taking the businesses to court to get the payments.
She said the City Corporation will not hesitate to take any business house refusing to pay government taxes to court, adding that these business houses are aware that they must pay taxes to the City Corporation.
