The Fanti Governor of Robertsport in Grand Cape Mount County, George Quansah, has commended the Liberian Government for providing security protection in the fishing industry in Liberia.
He said the industry has afforded Ghanaian fishermen in Liberia the opportunity to fully participate in the economic and social life of the Liberian people.
Governor Quansah made the commendation Monday in an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) Grand Cape Mount County correspondent.
He, however, expressed concern that despite the good fishing policies introduced by government, there are still some elements in the national security sector who are involved in harassing and intimidating Ghanaian fishermen.
He said it was regrettable that some security officers are engaged in embarrassing Ghanaian fishermen who have obtained resident permits in accordance with the laws of Liberia.
Meanwhile, Mr. Quansah has said that more than 30 Fanti fishing companies are operating in Grand Cape Mount County with over 1,500 workers including Liberians.
Governor Quansah also explained that besides fishing, Ghanaians are involved in infrastructural development in an effort to buttress government’s development efforts.
He said Ghanaian fishermen in the county are prepared to participate in the pending World Bank pier construction project.
