LIBERIA: Corruption Commission Recommends Prosecution For Ex-Police Boss, Others
The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission has recommended the prosecution of former Police Inspector General Beatrice Munah-Sieh Brown. The LACC wants Madam Sieh-Brown formally charged in connection with the alleged procurement of uniforms and accessories valued over 199, 000 US dollarsThe LACC said the uniforms and accessories were intended for use by the Emergency Response Unit of the Liberia National Police.
A release issued tonight also called for the prosecution of one Prince Akinremi, Proprietor of the Ultimate Investment and Holding Company.
The company is said to have won the bid to procure the police uniforms but has no record of Import Permit Declaration from the Commerce Ministry.
The release said the company does not also have a pre-shipment record from the Bureau Veritas Group of Company, BIVAC.
According to the LACC, investigation further revealed numerous irregularities surrounding the alleged procurement of the uniforms which were never delivered.
The LACC has also recommended the prosecution of the former Deputy Commissioner for Administration of the Liberia National Police, Harris Dunn.
Also recommended for prosecution are Kaymah Zeon and Nebo Garlo, Physical Auditors at the Ministry of Finance.
They are to be charged and prosecuted for the crime of Economic Sabotage for allegedly making and signing fraudulent entries in the records of the Ministry.
The LACC says their physical audit reports misrepresented the facts about the delivery of the ERU uniforms and accessories by Mr. Akinremi’s company.
At the same time, the LACC has recommended the prosecution of two other officials of the Finance Ministry in connection with disappearance of salary checks
They include the Former Comptroller General James Boker and Former Director of the Electronic Data Processing Section, Jenkins Yonly.
