A state-of-the-art hospital is nearing completion in Tappita, Nimba County.  The hospital, built by the People’s Republic of China will be dedicated during the July 26th celebrations which are scheduled to be held in the county.

The 100-bedroom hospital is estimated at US$10 million.  During a tour of the hospital, the Chinese Ambassador said the construction of the hospital is part of his government's effort to assist the Government of Liberia (GOL) in the provision of basic social services for its people.

The construction of the hospital was a response to a request by President Sirleaf to the PRC.  Besides Tappita Hospital, the People’s Republic of China is constructing the Fendall campus of the University of Liberia (UL).

PRC sources have indicated that the hospital will be provisioned with equipment and doctors after the construction.

The new hospital is a result of an appeal to the president, by the people of Tappita in 2006 for the construction of a hospital that will cater to the health needs of the people of the county.

At the time, the President said, she told the citizens that Government did not have money to build a hospital owing to budgetary constraints. She then assured the people of Tappita that her Government would make an appeal to friendly governments for assistance in meeting the medical needs of the people of Tappita.

In interviews with people in Tappita and surrounding areas, many expressed happiness and joy over the building of the hospital and hoped that it will greatly contribute to the health needs of the people.

Many other citizens residing in adjacent counties and areas expressed joy over the building of the hospital which they noted will not only help in curing and treating disease but will also help in teaching and providing jobs and careers for the people.
