Ministry of Labour Constitutes Interim Leadership of the FRTUL

The Minister of Labour Hon. Chief Moses Y. Kollie has constituted an Interim Administration to administer the day to day activities of the Federation of Road Transport Union of Liberia (FRTUL), Montserrado Branch.

Those named to the Interim Management Team are: Mr. Boakai Sirleaf, Director of Trade Union Affairs of the Ministry of Labour, Supervisor, Mr. Kessely A. Gayflor of the Central Office (FRTUL), Vice for Administration, Mr. Philip Kollie, Vice for Operation (Complainant party), Mr. Emmanuel Johnson (Respondent), General Secretary. Others are: Mr. Samuel T. Gonyon (Complainant), Deputy Secretary, Mr. John F. Kollie of the Central Office (Treasurer) and Mr. Emmanuel K. Greene (respondent), Adviser.

The action of the Labour Minister is in adherence to the mandate of the Civil Law “B” for the Ministry of Labour set up creditable body to conduct and supervise the holding elections and submit a report thereto as to the manner and conduct of the elections Federation of Road Transport Union of Liberia, Montserrado Branch.

Following the ruling of the Court into a complaint filed by some the FRTUL, the parties agreed for all elections to be deferred and set up an interim leadership to steer the affairs of the Montserrado Branch of the FRTUL under the supervision of the Ministry pending a complete improvement in national health condition of Liberia, at which time regular elections will be held.

In a communication to the Assigned Judge of the Civil Law Court “B” His Honur, Schealplor R. Dumbar, Labour Minister Kollie said “with your approval, we request that you kindly allow the Ministry defer the reference elections based on reasons outlined above and guide in setting up an interim leadership to steer the affairs of the FRTUL Montserrado Branch pending the improvement in the national health situation which will be followed by regular elections under the supervision of the Ministry of Labour as instructed by the Court.”

Meanwhile, Minister Kollie has said that the role of Director Boakai as Supervisor of the Interim team is to coordinate the day to day running of the Union, but will not be involved with any financial matter of the Union. He said that the Director is to receive only reports and not money to ensure transparency.

Minister Kollie further called on the newly inducted officials of the Montserrado Branch of the FRTUL to help the Ministry of Labour bring peace within the FRTUL.

Speaking on behalf of the newly inducted officials of the FRTUL, Mr. Samuel T. Gonyon assured the Minister of Labour that Interim team will do nothing to undermine the role of the Ministry and the mandate of the court.
