BUCHANAN, (LINA) – Following a vigorous manhunt, the Liberia National Police (LNP) has arrested two individuals allegedly linked to the recent murder of a German national, Juergen Schedemna, in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

Emmanuel Kollie was picked up in Bong County while trying to escape and another male yet to be named was arrested in Grand Bassa County following a tip-off.

According to Grand Bassa County Supt. Janjay Baikpeh, suspect Kollie was arrested with a single-barrel gun and seven rounds of ammunition.

Addressing a press conference in Buchanan Tuesday, Supt. Baikpeh revealed that suspect Kollie admitted to security personnel in Bong County that he shot one round of the gun at the Big Joe Town crime scene during the early morning hours of the incident.

Kollie told the Police that seven persons executed the mission, even though he did not reveal the names of the others. He, however, assured his full cooperation with the Police during the investigation.

Police authorities told journalists that the other suspect’s name is being withheld on grounds that disclosure of his name could undercut further investigation.

Juergen Schedemna, the Log Yard Manager of the International Capital Consultant (ICC), was shot on Wednesday, January 22, during an armed robbery at the company’s Big Joe Town office on the outskirts of Buchanan City.

Deceased Schedemna upon discovery was rushed in an ambulance to the Liberian Government referral hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, and his remains were subsequently deposited at the Abraham Roberts Funeral Parlour in Buchanan.

The German national had lived and worked in Liberia for more than ten years prior to his death.

“We the County leadership regret such barbaric act carried out by those individuals and will ensure that the perpetrators face justice,” the Grand Bassa Superintendent assured.

In addition, Supt. Baikpeh, who heads the County Security Council, said the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, Patrick Sudue, has given the green-light for increased security and rigorous daily patrol as discussions on the deployment of State Security at the concession environments is ongoing.

The death of Juergen marks the second of a foreign national in Grand Bassa County over the last 10 years.

During the regime of former president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’ in 2008, the Manager of the Liberia Agriculture Company, popularly known as “Blue Nose”, was shot dead by unknown individuals in the LAC Plantation in Grand Bassa County.

In a related development, Superintendent Baikpeh is appealing to all citizens to be calm and allow the security to do its work while those with any tangible information should provide it to the police as investigation continues.
