LIBERIA: Cape Mount Police Arrests Ghanaian Over Alleged Kidnap Of Boy

Flash Back: Man Handcuffed

SINJE Town,  (LINA) – Police in Gola Konneh District, Grand Cape Mount County are interrogating a 27-year-old Ghanaian for allegedly kidnapping a five-year-old Liberian boy.

The Ghanaian only identified as Shaka, allegedly kidnapped the child on Tuesday, July 9, around the Harrisfield Community in Gola Konneh District.

According to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Liberia National Police Grand Cape Mount County detachment, the accused was traveling from Lofa Bridge using the route to Dablo Clan when he reportedly had a break down with his bike which he parked near a creek.

While in the process of repairing the bike, the report said, the accused then noticed that he had misplaced the key of the bike.

When the 27-year-old Ghanaian was searching for his key, the report said, he saw two kids walking along the same route with one of them in possession of a bike key.

Suspect Shaka, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, told the two kids that the bike key belongs to him, but the kids rejected the claim, saying that the key was theirs, something that prompted him (Shaka) to forcefully take the key away from the kids.

During the tussle for the key, one of the kids fled the scene, leaving behind his five-year-old colleague who was reportedly taken away by the Ghanaian to an unknown destination.

When the information reached the security at Lofa Bridge, they initiated a manhunt for Shaka who was subsequently arrested along with the boy.

Following Shaka’s arrest, the kid was reunited with his family, while the suspect was taken to the Lofa Bridge Police Station where he is currently undergoing investigation.

Gola Konneh has witnessed the influx of many foreigners, particularly Ghanaians, who are involved in mining activities in the gold-rich district.

Three months ago, tension erupted between a group of Ghanaians in the area and officers of the Liberia Immigration Service after a Ghanaian was arrested for illegally entering the country.
