(LINA) – The Mission Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Liberia, Anthony Chan, has pledged the organization’s commitment and support to the Liberian Government Network Platform.
The Government Network Platform is intended to impact government‘s operations in profound ways through electronic connectivity of Ministries, Agencies and Commissions.
Chan observed that it is an open secret that economic growth in Liberia has stalled and the Liberian economy is simply not doing well, emphasizing that the government is working and utilizing all available resources and tools at its disposal, including digital technology to stimulate growth.
The USAID official was speaking in Monrovia when the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication and the Liberia Telecommunication Corporation officially launched the Government Network (Gov.Net) at the Monrovia City Hall over the weekend.
“We are proud to note that we at USAID have over several years been working with our Liberian partners to put in place a robust digital infrastructure that can help increase productivity and stimulate growth,” Chan said.
According to Chan, Gov.Net is an online service portal that provides a one-stop window for services and information offered by the various Ministries, Agencies and Commissions of the Liberian Government.
Chan asserted that the Gov.Net will improve the way government transacts business, accelerate public sector decision-making, improve transparency and ensure open government through intergovernmental digital connectivity.
He stressed that USAID is committed to the success of this activity because of the importance attached to effective, inclusive and accountable governance.
Chan urged government Ministries, Agencies and Commissions to utilize this innovative digital service so that it achieves its intended purpose, noting that improved public sector governance and timely government communications with the Liberian people will strengthen good governance.
“Ultimately, we must all work together to ensure that we derive maximum benefits from the investment we have made in the digital space,” Chan said.
