Russia to Seek Yaroshenko’s US Prison Transfer if Medical Care Improves – Omsbudswoman

UNITED NATIONS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik – 17th April, 2019) Russia will request that jailed Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko be transferred to another US prison once Moscow can confirm that the facility will provide him with adequate medical services, Russian High Commissioner for Human Rights Tatiana Moskalkova told reporters on Tuesday.

Russia will request Yaroshenko’s transfer after clarifying “whether the information that at another facility, the medical care that would be provided to Yaroshenko, is reliable,” Moskalkova said. “If this information is confirmed, I would address his transfer.

Yaroshenko was captured in Liberia in 2010 and sentenced the following year in the United States to 20 years in prison term on charges of conspiring to smuggle drugs.

Last month, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said he had received a letter from Yaroshenko asking for help in persuading US authorities to provide him with medical care.

Antonov noted that Yaroshenko has complained of the “very poor” conditions in the US prison where he is currently serving his sentence.
