LIBERIA: Police Probing Mysterious Death Of Woman, 23, In Lofa

Police Chief Patrick Sudu

Police in Lofa County have launched an investigation into the mysterious death of a 23 year-old woman in Foya City, Lofa County.

The police inquiry was prompted by the discovery of the decomposed body of Madam Sarah Moses by a 55 year-old man identified as Joseph Saah Lamine on the outskirts of Foya City.

Madam Moses went missing on February 24 in Foya and her decomposed body was discovered on March 3 by Lamine while on the way to his farm located on the outskirts of Foya City.

Lamine told police in the area recently that while on the way to his farm in Foya, he smelled the decomposed body of the deceased, but mistook it for a dead animal.

He said when he went to check he discovered the decomposed body and ran back to town to inform the people.

Following the discovery of the decomposed body, a 15-man coroner jury was set up by the Liberia National Police to examine the corpse.

After a period of examination by the jurors, they reported that there was foul play in Sarah’s death, saying there was a deep cut on her left arm.

They further explained that she was allegedly murdered with a sharp instrument and that the profuse bleeding from the wound could have been the cause of death.

Some residents of the community in which Madam Moses lived informed the Police that a week before her death, Sarah and her lover identified as Francis Mathew, who is said to be at large, were in serious confusion over the misuse of palm oil.

The residents told the Police that since February 24 they stopped seeing Mathew, only to be informed that the decomposed body of Sarah was discovered.

Several persons, including one Fallah, Faya Blama and Saah Lamine are currently undergoing investigation at the Liberia National Police Station in Foya in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, Lofa County Attorney Luther Sumo has said the Justice Ministry through the Liberia National Police and the Court will work with Interpol to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice.
