Virginia Fire Chief To Conduct Training For LNFS Staffs

Fire Chief of Virginia in the United States of America, John Butler

The Fire Chief of Virginia in the United States of America, John Butler, is expected in Liberia to conduct training sessions and seminars for members of the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS).

Making the disclosure to reporters in Monrovia over the weekend, the Director of the LNFS, Alex Dickson, said Butler is coming to Liberia to do an assessment on behalf of the International Fire Chiefs Association, of which Liberia is a member.

“The Virginia Fire Chief will conduct the seminar and in-service training for Liberian firefighters to help build their capacity in administration and enhance their communication skills in the fight against fire,” Dickson noted.

He disclosed that Butler will also present Liberia’s certificate of participation to President George Manneh Weah, who is the Chief Fire Marshall of Liberia, adding that the certificate was achieved during the conference of the International Fire Chiefs Association held in the United States of America.

“The intervention of Butler came as a result of a passionate plea by the LNFS Chief to the Virginia Fire Chief for his role in the recalibration of the sector in Liberia,” Dickson disclosed.

He stated that the LNFS is also anticipating a donation of two fire trucks from the Virginia Fire Chief as a means of positively contributing to the fight against fire in Liberia.

“The leadership of the LNFS is poised to transform the institution from its downward status to a standardized position where it can be appreciated by the citizenry,” Dickson told reporters.

“We want to upgrade the service of this institution so that people will see firemen as professionals. People must also understand that we are not only there to extinguish fire but to also institute preventive measures that will prove beneficial to the people,” Dickson said.

He vowed to ensure that the activities of the institution are decentralized by establishing fire stations in all of the 15 counties across Liberia.
