Abuja, January 11, 2019: The Embassy of the Republic of Liberia in Nigeria wishes to disclose that some immediate relatives of the late Miss Kadiatu Barry have been found. The deceased’s relatives on Thursday, January 10, 2019 contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Monrovia following several attempts by the Ministry and the Liberian Embassy here in Abuja.
The Embassy, therefore, on behalf of the Liberian Government, expresses its thanks and appreciations to all who showed interest and concern since the quest to trace and identify the late Barry’s relatives was made public on the 8th of January, 2019.
As of this writing, over 31,000 Liberians and others from all over the world have followed the post on our social media page, where they have not only shown interest but have also expressed their sympathy over the unfortunate demise of the young Liberian lady while others provided some suggestions on how to trace her relatives.
Miss Barry who prior to her death was unable to talk due to malnutrition and sickness, was taken to the Igondo Hospital in Lagos where she later died on the 22nd of December, 2018, just a day shy of her 31st birthday.
Meanwhile, the Embassy wishes to use this opportunity to re-emphasize the importance of the documentation of all Liberians who resident within its concurrent accredited countries of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. These documentations are subsequently stored in the Embassy’s database, a process that began years ago.
The Embassy also appeals to all concerned who have not obtained their Consular ID’s to do so.
