Suspended President, Godwin Yoryor

Union of Liberian Artists (ULA), dealer in locally made content of art and craft materials, has with immediate effect suspended for time indefinite it’s President, Godwin Yoryor, for alleged administrative malpractices and other forms of corruption.

ULA accused its President of unaccounted for fund, misused of entrusted property (materials), causing substantial loss to the Union’s finances (bank account), as well as mistruths with his governorship among others.

Speaking recently a news conference in Monrovia, Mr. Isaac Doubor, said among many things, that the decision to suspend Yoryor was taken by the administrative council, executive committee and the advisory board which jointly are the highest decision-making body in accordance with the Union’s Constitution.

He said this followed investigation conducted by a two-man team made-up of Copyright of Liberia’s Deputy Director, Clifford Robertson, and Madam Margret Cooper-Frank, Assistance Minister for Culture, Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), who found Yoryor guilty on eleven (11) counts and was therefore asked to write letter of apology but vehemently refused.

Meanwhile, ULA has name Mr. Isaac Doubor, Vice President for Administration as Acting President until elections are held in December 2019.

He will be assisted by Michael Gaye, Vice President for Operations; Mohammed Sheriff, General Secretary; Nadu Kromah, Financial Secretary; Sonpon Dargbe, Arts Coordinator; and Ellen Zeze, Treasurer as well as Advisory Board members Isaac Wallace and  Sekou Kromah respectively.

ULA is a professional body made-up of Liberian Artists. It was founded in 2005 by group of Liberians with intent to showcase talent, unite artists as well as working with the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism, and other international bodies for the betterment of the industry.
