What appears to be a looming situation on the facts surrounding the alleged missing container containing Sixteen Billion Liberian Dollars reportedly printed in China, Lebanon and Sweden by the Ellen led Government for Liberia seems to be misery as contradiction mounts.
Last week the Liberian leader, President George Manneh Weah constituted an investigation team comprising the Liberia National Police (LNP), the National Security Agency (NSA) the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) and the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).
Earlier, when the information was released by the Hot Pepper Newspaper about the missing containing the money, both the Ministers of Justice, Cllr. Frank Musa Dean, and Lenn Eugene Nagbe issued a statement confirming the report, and said an investigation was underway, as a matter of concern, Police also invited both the former Governor of the CBL, Milton Weeks and Charles Sirleaf (Son of the former President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf) were also invited by the police.
For his part, the Minister of Finance, Development and Planning, Samule Tweah speaking on a local radio station refuted the report released by the two senior officials of the Liberian Government of any missing container containing Sixteen Billion Liberian Dollars, assuring the public that such information is untrue.
However, latest information released by the Minister of Justice has disclosed that ‘There is no ongoing investigation for missing container or missing billions of Liberian dollars. In a post to Land Group Chartroom on the Face Book Messenger platform Minister Dean reportedly said: Ladies and Gentlemen, it is necessary to put what is unfolding into perspective. The investigation is not about missing container(s).
According to him, the investigation is to probe money brought into the country to establish whether they were properly received. Logged and deposited into the Central Bank of Liberia Vault. Minister Dean further disclosed that the ongoing investigation by the government is also intended to establish whether the amounts were properly disbursed.
