“President Weah Signs Historic Deed to Modernize West Point”

President George Weah

President George Manneh Weah has signed the historic Deed to the slum community of West Point, which paves way for the transformation of the Township into a modern community.

The Deed otherwise referred to as the Development Grant was presented to the Liberian leader in June of this year for his signature following the conduct of multiple surveys involving the Liberia Land Authority, Ministry of Internal Affairs and other government agencies.

President Weah has turned over the Deed to the National Housing Authority – Liberia (NHA) in preparation for the construction of over 2,000 modern homes in West Point to replace existing outmoded structures.

Meanwhile, the 1st Phase for the upgrading and transformation of West Point is expected to commence soon with the construction of an Ocean Defense System to protect the land from sea erosion.

The National Housing Authority is working along with more than 12 government agencies, NGOs and the township leadership on the upgrading process.

West Point has been an epicenter of troubling sea erosion over the past years that have made thousands of residents homeless.
