The NYPD is investigating after the New York chapter of a Muslim advocacy group says it received a threatening letter.

The Council of American-Islamic Relations’ New York chapter says the letter threatened “extermination, torture and rape.”

According to the organization, the letter appears to have originated in the United Kingdom and is similar to threats against the mosque Masjid Manhattan.

Police say there is a formal complaint on file for aggravated harassment in connection with the letter.

The group announced the threat a few hours after the end of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan.

CAIR-NY says there was a 560 percent increase in anti-Muslim incidents in New York in 2016 compared to 2015.
