Liberia’s Political Drama: Ex-President Taylor’s Daughter Endorses Boakai, Abandons Jewel Howard Taylor

Flash Back: The good old days of Charles Taylor and his wife, Jewel Howard Taylor

As endorsements of presidential candidates overwhelming the October 10, 2017 general and presidential elections, the daughter of former Liberian leader, Charles Ghankay Taylor now in prison in the UK, Zoe Taylor has publicly endorsed the presidential candidate of the ruling Unity Party (UP), Ambassador Joseph Nyumah Boakai who is also Vice President of Liberia.

This decision taken by Ms. Taylor bewildered many Liberians as to the reason behind the endorsement of the Unity Party presidential candidate, while Senator Jewel Howard Taylor who is also contesting as Vice Presidential candidate to Senator George Manneh Weah on the ticket of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).

The Taylor family without doubt openly support Jewel Howard Taylor in 2005 and in 2014 the senatorial bid of Mrs. Taylor in the votes-rich Bounty County, but this time, amazingly this time Ms. Taylor has intentionally refused to support her father’s former wife in the penning Liberian elections pouring her support on the Vice President in his quest to capture the country’s presidency.

The detained Liberian leader’s daughter made the disclosure on a local radio station in Monrovia, she said preferred the vice president (Boakai of Unity Party) over the rest of the candidates in the race vying for the presidency.

According to Ms. Taylor, former wife of Representative Edwin Snowe, the vice president is best seated to complete developmental projects that President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf led Unity Party has not been able to complete, and further indicated that the vice president has the leadership experience and ability to replace President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Stressing, “Our father told us to forgive all those who went against us, something we have done”, Ms. Taylor speaking said. She has however made it clear that she in constant contact with her father (Former President Taylor who is serving a 50-year jail sentence in the United Kingdom.)

Some Liberians who were interviewed by the GNN expressed disappointment in this latest news coming from the daughter of the former Liberian leader to endorse the presidential bid of the Liberian Vice President, Joseph Boakai, describing her as an ‘Ingrate’, who has refused to appreciate her former mother.
