A senior partisan of the ruling Unity Party (UP) and Managing Director of the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), Mr. Harrison Karnwea has quite the party to join the opposition Liberty Party of Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine describing his new heaven as the right place to be.

Karnwea who hailed from one of Liberia’s vote rich counties, Nimba County has reportedly joined the opposition Liberty Party in order to capture the Vice Presidential candidacy  for the Party as the 2017 general presidential elections drawing closer.

This latest defection from the Unity Party seems worrisome, as many observers who spoke to the GNN said it is a big blow to the party for the unceremonious departure of one of its strong pillars who could use his connections to pull votes in that part of the country in favor of the Unity Party.

“From what I am hearing and seen for myself, the Liberty Party will be a party to content with come the October 2017 elections, the Unity Party is gradually losing many of its strong men and women, many of whom are said to be crossing carpet over to the opposition,” Nathaniel Dennis of the Borough of New Kru Town speaking to the GNN noted.

“This must be a truth story about the news that President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has given her full support to the candidacy of the political leader of the Liberty Party; turning her back on Vice President Joseph N. Boakai’s presidential bid. What a misery?” Annie Freeman a resident of central Monrovia expressing her feelings on this latest development said.

“This year’s elections will not be a child’s play, politicians should now learn to do their homework or they will be the victims at all cost; as you can see people are leaving from one party to another under the pretext that they have found the right place to be. This is indeed worrisome,” Jonathan Jack, a professor of one of the local universities speaking to our staff warned.
