LIBERIA: Red Cross skills training graduates 198 women

redDecember 22, 2016:The Liberia National Red Cross Society has graduated one hundred and ninety eight less fortunate women and girls in various skill disciplines through its Women Training and Integration project in Monrovia.

The women and girls including single mothers, self-supported, economically vulnerable, commercial sex workers, rape victims and drug adults were recruited from the west Point community and trained in hair dressing, catering, decoration and tailoring.

Speaking at the 5th Cycle graduation program, the Director of Program Ambullia Perry said with the support of international partners, the Liberian Red Cross will keep working to empower vulnerable women and girls to make them sustainable income earners.

The Cooperation Delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Tamador Hassan thanked the graduates for the decision to enroll in the Red Cross WIN program; something she said has given them value to secure their positive place in the society.

Tamador pledged the ICRC’s unflinching support to the Liberian Red Cross in building strong and resilient communities.

The Red Cross skill training is aimed at restoring the dignity and values of vulnerable and marginalized women and girls by economically empowering them to contribute to the wellbeing of their families and the society.

Since 2009, Liberian Red Cross has developed the skills of over one thousand women and girls from several poor communities in Monrovia and empowered them with the required working tools to make them incredible income earners and sustainable assets to their respective families.

The Liberian Red Cross` Women Training and Integrated Program (WIN) currently supported by the International Committee of Red Cross, empowers vulnerable women and girls through skill training, adult literacy and psychosocial support.
