Russian economy minister seized over alleged $2 million bribe

636147845226812797-ap-russia-minister-detained-86721732PETERSBURG, Russia — Russia’s Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev was detained over allegations he took a $2 million bribe in return for supporting a major oil company, authorities said Tuesday.

The Investigative Committee anti-corruption body said in a statement that Ulyukayev was held late Monday after allegedly taking the money in a sting set up by security officials.

He is accused of taking the bribe for allowing the state-controlled oil giant Rosneft to acquire a 50% stake in another oil company, Bashneft.
