President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has submitted a list containing priority bills to the National Legislature for enactment during their one-month extraordinary session.
President Sirleaf, in a communication to the Legislature on Thursday, said many of the bills submitted have strong bearings on discharging Liberia’s obligations to international partners and as such timely action by the legislature will contribute to resuscitating the nation’s economy.
The Liberian leader noted that a prompt action will also provide the legal framework for the release of financial resources and investment to the nation’s economy, which is currently in crisis.
The listing submitted by President Sirleaf comprises bills that are already pending legislative action as well as pending bills for submission to the Legislature.
Key among bills pending legislative action are: an Act for the establishment of the Gola National Park; A Bill to Ratify the Concession Agreement between the Republic of Liberia and Liberia Cocoa, as well as A Bill to Establish the Liberia Rubber Fund.
The list also includes: A Bill to Establish the National Health Institute of Liberia; A Mineral Development Agreement with Hummingbird Resources Incorporated; an Amendment to the Constitution of the Republic Liberia and an Act to Ratify the Investment Incentive Agreement between Liberia and Sethi Ferrofabrik Incorporated, among others.
Included among pending bills for submission to the Legislature are: Financing Agreement (Liberia Urban Water Supply Project) between the Republic of Liberia and the International Development Association and a Ratification of the First Amendment to the Concession Agreement between Liberia and LIBIN Oil Palm Incorporated.
The list also contains the Ratification of the First Amendment to the Concession Agreement between Liberia and the Liberia Forest Product Incorporated and a Financing Agreement (Rural Community Finance Project) between Liberia and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), among others.
