LRA Boss Ascends To African Tax Administration Forum Governing Council

The Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), Elfrieda Stewart Tamba and Liberia have scored another milestone in international taxation landscape with her ascendency to the newly elected Governing Council of the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) as a Council Member. This took place at the Fourth General Assembly held in Durban, South Africa recently.

ATAF is the apex tax organ on the continent. Commissioner General Tamba also currently chairs the West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF).

Mr. Babatunde Fowler, the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) of Nigeria was elected chair of the Council, while Mr Sudhamo LAL of the Mauritius Revenue Authority was elected as Vice Chair.

Other CGs forming the new leadership of the Council are Mrs. Doris Akoi, Commissioner General, Uganda Revenue Authority; Mr Thomas Moyane, Commissioner General,-South African Revenue Service; Mr. Leonard Sentore, Commissioner General – Burundi Revenue Authority; Mr Dumisani Masilela, Commissioner General, Swaziland Revenue Authority; Mr. George Blankson, Commissioner General – Ghana Revenue Authority, and Dr. (Mrs.) Marcellina M. Chijoriga, Commissioner General – Tanzania Revenue Authority.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Fowler amongst other promises, pledged to bring on board the North African countries to join ATAF and will persuade them to recognize the benefits of being a member of the premier continental tax organization.

Meanwhile, CG Tamba has described the opportunity to serve as a member of the ATAF Governing Council as another latitude to meaningfully contribute to the transformation of tax administration in dear Africa.

The WATAF Chairperson and ATAF Council Member said her engagements will help buttress the ‘taxation transformation’ train driving through mama Africa and will concomitantly help strengthen LRA and its staff capacity to collect the lawful revenues due the Liberian people for the national good.
