Man Shot by Police After Allegedly Turning Towards Them with Gun in South Jamaica

gunThe NYPD says police officers shot a man who had a gun in Queens Friday evening.

The shooting occurred just after 9:20 p.m. at the Baisley Houses at 116-80 Guy R Brewer Boulevard in South Jamaica.

According to police, a plainclothes lieutenant and a police officer with the NYPD’s Housing Bureau Police Service Area 9 were conducting a patrol when they came across 38-year-old Jamel Ethridge on the second floor. They say Ethridge had a gun in his hand.

According to police, the officers made verbal commands to Ethridge to drop his gun. Police say both the lieutenant and the officer then fired their weapons, hitting Ethridge in the left leg once.
