At least five people were killed in a plane crash in Malta carrying officials of the European Union regarding migrant crisis in the island nation.

Malta has recently been affected by influx of refugees and EU officials wanted to see for themselves the current situation in the country.

The reports tell the plane was engulfed in black smoke. The rescue services do not believe there are survivors. The aircraft crashed on take-off near the port.
