Former Paramus Catholic football standout dies in crash

mike-deveniojpg-1c7ce37a408dccaeEAST RUTHERFORD – A former star football player at Paramus Catholic High School died Sunday in a car crash near MetLife Stadium, according to police and the school’s high school alumni association.

“It is with a heavy heart that I tell you we lost one of our own last night,” the group, Paramus Catholic Football Alumni, wrote on its Facebook page. “Mike Devenio (class of 2010), was tragically killed in a car accident by MetLife Stadium. He was 24.”

Devenio, who lived in Lyndhurst, made second-team as a wide receiver in the North Bergen Interscholastic League. After graduating Paramus Catholic in 2010, he played wide receiver at Western New England University, where he majored in sports management.
