Hurricane Matthew: Maryland to South Carolina’s Rescue

md-hartBALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ)– Governor Larry Hogan is sending part of the Maryland Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team (MD-HART) to South Carolina as a precautionary measure to assist in rescues from potential flooding.

The team consists of a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter and four crew members from the Maryland Army National Guard and two divers from the Baltimore County Fire Department.

Maryland National Guard, Baltimore County Police Department, and Baltimore County Fire Department personnel make up the MD-HART. They are able to support multiple missions including vehicle rescue in swift water flood zones, structure rescue through window, door, balcony insertion and structure rescue form rooftops and confined areas in flood zones, mountain wilderness extrications, tree rescue, extrication, open, inland, swift water rescue and mass rescue capability.
